長野市でもインフルエンザの流行期に入りました。市内の小学校では集団感染の報告が相次いでおり、岡田内科の外来でも多くの患者さんを診察しています。手洗い・うがいの徹底に加え、早めのワクチン接種をお勧めします。

「フルミスト」を導入します

今シーズンより、当院では経鼻噴霧インフルエンザ生ワクチン「フルミスト」の接種を開始します。注射が苦手なお子さんや、痛みなく接種したいというご家族からのご要望にお応えするかたちでの導入です。

フルミストとは

フルミストは、左右の鼻腔にシュッとスプレーするだけで接種できるインフルエンザワクチンです。体内に入った弱毒化ウイルスが免疫を誘導し、インフルエンザの感染予防・重症化抑制に働きます。

鼻から取り込まれるため、気道粘膜の免疫（局所免疫）も同時に刺激できる点が注射製剤との大きな違いです。流行株以外のウイルスに対しても発症を軽くする効果が期待されています。

流行はすでに始まっています。効果が出るまでに約2週間かかりますので、なるべく早めの接種をお勧めします。ご予約は12月中旬までを目安にお考えください。ただし、入荷できる数は決まっており、ご希望に添えない場合がありますので、あらかじめご了承ください。

当日は母子手帳（13歳未満の方）・診察券・予診票をお持ちください。母子手帳を忘れると接種できませんのでご注意ください。インフルエンザは重症化すると入院が必要になるケースもあります。特に小さなお子さんは早めの対策を。「注射は怖い」というお子さんも、フルミストなら安心して接種いただけます。

Flu Season Has Begun — Introducing “FluMist” This Year

Flu season has arrived in Nagano City as well. Elementary schools throughout the city have reported a series of cluster outbreaks, and here at Okada Internal Medicine Clinic we are also seeing a growing number of patients with influenza symptoms. In addition to thorough handwashing and gargling, we strongly encourage getting vaccinated as early as possible.

Introducing “FluMist”

Starting this season, our clinic will begin offering FluMist, a live attenuated influenza vaccine administered as a nasal spray. This new option has been introduced in response to requests from children who are afraid of needles and from families who would like a vaccination method that involves no pain.

What Is FluMist?

FluMist is an influenza vaccine that is administered simply by spraying a small amount into each nostril. The weakened (attenuated) virus contained in the vaccine stimulates the immune system once inside the body, helping to prevent infection and reduce the severity of illness if infection does occur.

Because the vaccine is absorbed through the nose, it also stimulates local immunity in the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract at the same time — a key difference from injectable vaccines. It is also expected to lessen symptoms even against strains of the virus other than the one specifically targeted by the vaccine.

Who Should Not Receive This Vaccine (Main Contraindications)

• Individuals with a clear immune deficiency
• Individuals currently taking oral or injectable steroid medications
• Individuals with a severe allergy (history of anaphylaxis) to eggs or gelatin
• Individuals who have had an asthma attack within the past year

Online and Phone Reservations Available

Flu season is already underway. Since it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to become fully effective, we recommend getting vaccinated as early as possible. Please plan to make your reservation by mid-December at the latest.

On the day of your visit, please bring your Maternal and Child Health Handbook (for patients under 13), your patient ID card, and your pre-visit questionnaire. Please note that vaccination cannot be given if the Maternal and Child Health Handbook is forgotten. Influenza can, in severe cases, require hospitalization, so we especially encourage early preventive measures for young children. Even children who are afraid of injections can receive FluMist with peace of mind.
